Recently I have been battling with the idea of not only living a happy life, but also a predominately healthy lifestyle too. I’ve read countless of articles, books and magazines in the hope of finding a suitable pathway to happiness. But, I soon realised I was struggling to find the perfect path because everyone is different and what makes them tick is of course also different. Here, I thought I’d share what allows me to live a happy and healthy lifestyle in the hope that you can take something away from at least one of my tips.
EXERCISE: I know this one is slightly obvious and sadly not for everyone but personally, I go through stages of exercising a ridiculous amount, and then none at all. Between these stages I can feel an extreme difference, not only to my general fitness in my every day life but more importantly to my stress. It’s no secret that exercise releases endorphins which in turn allows us to relax and it really does work. Understandably its a hard process to jump into but with a little bit of pushing and gradual intensity you’ll be able to work yourself up from merely walking your dog for an hour to running on the treadmill before you know it.
TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF: This is something I’m sure I can vouch that nearly all of us do not apply on a daily basis but know is terribly important. Even something as simple as using your favourite expensive shower gel or moisturising every other day after a bath – its important we take time to love ourselves.
WORK/LIFE BALANCE: Although we can at times become obsessed with our careers and how we can constantly gain a promotion – whilst the ambitious nature to excel is healthy, becoming obsessed with it is not. Having a work/life balance is something that can take time to perfect but is important that you take the time in doing so.
WATER: Yet again another easy but what feels like an unachievable task. In one day we’re meant to drink 8 glasses of water, yes thats right only 8. Although this number can seem quite scary and colossal thats only 1 glass nearly every 90 minutes. You may be running to the toilet all day needing to pee but the progress in your skin alone is worth it.
READING: Because I am a massive book-worm this one comes as no surprise. But, I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to push ourselves by reading books in and out of our comfort zone. I enjoy fantasy novels where I allow myself to escape from the realism but I also take the time read novels that push me to follow my dreams and become the best version of me.
CLEAN & TIDY: Every night before I sleep I tidy my bedroom so when I wake in the morning I don’t have to worry about working in a messy space. Once a week I make the effort to clean my bedroom, clean space = clear head.
PASSION: Allow yourself to indulge on your passion and things that make you happy. Its normal and you love doing it so why wouldn’t you?
BE PROUD: It’s important to not be too hard on yourself and to be proud of everything you achieve. Life doesn’t always swing your way and you can’t always get what you want but even the littlest of things are worth being proud of.
FOOD: This one I say with a heavy heart because it is something I really struggle with – try to eat as clean as you can. I know it’s hard when you absolutely adore anything covered in cheese or sugar but its crazy how much better you feel for eating clean…plus your body and skin will love you for it.
I hope you enjoyed reading what I think makes a happy and healthy lifestyle. What do you do on a daily basis to ensure your in a happy/healthy state of mind? Let me know in the comments below.
