Throughout our lives, we all have a one certain place that our heart belongs to, this may sound cliche, but mine is Florida. Ever since my first visit when I was 2 we have gone back repeatedly only ever fuelling my dream of one day working in the happiest place on earth. With the help of family suggestions and my experiences in the wonderful state over the last few years, here is my list of top 10 tips/things you have to do whilst visiting in Florida:

  1. Ensure that you see a gator before you leave
  2. Do something ‘un-touristy’; we have family in Florida so we enjoy visiting places with them such as nature reserves or springs, they are lovely and quiet, and away from all the tourist madness
  3. Visit the theme parks (of course). A Florida vacation isn’t complete without visiting not only all four Disney parks, but also the two Universal parks (mainly for Harry Potter)
  4. Whether it is hurricane season or not, you have to witness a Florida storm. Hide away behind the curtains and watch from your window as the dark sky illuminates before you, it truly is beautiful
  5. Go to the beach. I’ve visited Daytona Beach, the Gulf Coast and Cocoa Beach in Florida. All of them are beautiful and just wonderfully serene and quiet, you must visit one for at least the day
  6. Do something that you wouldn’t do at home, whether it be surfing or boogy-boarding, the possibilities whilst in Florida are endless
  7. Try new food, discovering local restaurants on the internet or from the locals is much more fun, and the food is nearly always better than a chain restaurant. A favourite of ours is “Ellie Lous”, the meat is sublime and the atmosphere is so chilled. I’ll add a link to their website here.
  8. Watch the sunrise. Nothing is more satisfying and sets you up for your day than watching the sun rise whilst eating your breakfast
  9. Visit the supermarket and buy something random that will remind you of Florida forever. Whether its a dodgy key ring, spoon or Disney band-aids, you will more than definitely find a few things that take your fancy
  10. Make sure you relax, although this is a demanding holiday, you have to make sure you take time to lounge by the pool, because if not, you will definitely crash and burn extremely quickly

And of course, enjoy your trip to the wonderful state of Florida! I am always planning my next trip back and currently wondering when that will be. But remember…
