Today I am bringing you a different blog post compared to my previous ones. Usually, I veer towards book reviews, Disney and travelling but recently, I have joined Influenster and figured a few Beauty related posts would go down nicely. For some of you that aren’t aware of what Influenster is, its a platform where you can write reviews of products you’ve tried and in turn read other peoples reviews to find out whether that over-rated product is actually worth it. In the process of joining Influenster, I decided once a month I would bring you a beauty themed post; today I am starting with my drug store ‘must-have’ products. It is important to mention that I am based in the UK, so I don’t know whether all of these products are available worldwide at your local drug store. Also, that I am not a professional make-up artist, this is purely my own opinion.
DRUG STORE BEAUTY ‘MUST-HAVES’
After moisturising my face I start applying the base to hold my concealer on with the use of the Rimmel Match Perfection Fix & Perfect Primer. I really like this one because it comes in one shade (002) which almost looks like face cream, so you never have to buy a new shade if you get a tan etc. The texture is wonderful and perfectly holds my face on throughout the day; for only £6.99 a tube it’s a necessity – especially when the tube lasts for what feels like a millennium.
Next, I apply my favourite drug store concealer which is usually the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer but recently has been Rimmel’s Wake Me Up Concealer. The Collection one is absolutely amazing, it hides every single blemish and only costs £4.19; I prefer this one to all of the high end concealers I’ve tried by a mile. I only decided to try the Rimmel concealer as my Collection one had run out and I saw this one for only £5.49 in Boots and I consequently ended up loving that one too; both are a must-have for your make-up bag.
I am quite lucky to have relatively clear skin so I never apply foundation so sadly I cannot offer you a favourite one to try. I do however, use the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder to ensure that I am shine free and that all of my face make-up is held into place. This one is also extremely cheap at only £3.99 and lasts forever.
To finish off my face, I next use blusher. To be completely honest, my favourite blushers I actually bought in America, but, I’ve recently used this one that I purchased in the UK and I am liking it just as much. It’s the Rimmel London Stay Blushed; it’s so easy to apply and so handy to have in your bag if you’re going out and don’t want to have to take a blusher and a brush to re-apply. The shade I have is ‘Pop of Pink’ and it isn’t so bright I look like a china doll, but it gives my cheeks just enough colour for only £4.49.
For a long time I struggled to find a good drug store product to use on my eyebrows. Usually I stick to Benefit or Urban Decay but was very pleased when I found an almost duplicate product to my Urban Decay eyebrow palette, but from L’Oreal. I am constantly growing my eyebrows which means I always have gaps so need something with quite a good coverage and the L’Oreal Paris Brow Artiste Genius Kit gives me the exact coverage that my brows need. This one is a little bit more expensive, but I have been using it for over 6 months now and I am still yet to hit pan. At a price of £9.99 equipped with two shades and mini tweezers, you can’t go wrong.
After my eyebrows my attention is always drawn to what now looks like my tired eyes compared to the rest of my face. Before applying any eye shadow I always apply a primer or in this case Maybelline’s EyeStudio Colour Tattoo – 24 hour cream gel eye shadow. Sometimes if I’m feeling lazy or don’t have enough time to do my make-up properly, I merely apply one of these to my lids without any eye shadow and it stays put for the entire day. I honestly cannot recommend these enough, the colours are gorgeous and compliment each other so perfectly, they are so pigmented, last all day, act as an awesome base for any eye shadow and are only £4.99 each. My favourite shades are Bold Gold, Barely Branded and Inked in Pink.
To add to my already wonderful looking eyes, I would then use eye shadow. It is no secret that I am a huge fan of the Urban Decay NAKED palette’s (like we all are), but I wanted to find something just as good, but cheaper and in different shades. Thus is when I discovered the Revolution Eye Shadow Palettes. There is so many palettes to choose from giving you hundreds of different shades to experiment with; the three that I currently own are ‘Beyond Flawless’, ‘Affirmation’ and ‘Flawless Matte’ and I love all of them. I cannot urge you to buy these eyeshadows enough; they are so pigmented. To make it even better – they’re only £8 each, you get 32 different shadows in one palette and have a mirror in the lid. Could you love these any more if you tried?
To finish off my look I apply a cat eye and some mascara. Without a doubt my all-time favourite eyeliner is the Rimmel London Exaggerate Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. The brush is perfect for application, the liner is jet black instead of just a greyish colour and lasts all day considering its waterproof. This will forever be my go to eyeliner; I cannot rave about it enough and its only £5.29.
My favourite drugstore mascara is the Maybelline Mascara Great Lash in the shade ‘Very Black’. It makes my lashes lovely and long but not too clumpy which is exactly what I look for in a mascara (I understand everyones mascara preferences are different). For only £4.99 (and awesome pink packaging) you can’t go wrong.
Finally, I of course need a lipstick. Due to where I’m going this tends to vary from occasion to occasion, but for a every day casual look this is the one I would gravitate towards. The L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Exclusive Nudes is the most amazing lipstick I have owned since discovering Mac lipsticks. I adore the texture and how it also moisturises my lips, but the colour is also perfect and never too bright for an ordinary day. The shade that I own is ‘Eva’s Nude’, but I honestly hope to one day own the entire collection as every shade is absolutely gorgeous! The packaging is also divine, it makes it look even more expensive than it actually is considering they’re only £6.99 each.
